The Small Mining Entrepreneur: An Opportunity for Peru’s Development
Peru has thousands of small mining entrepreneurs who have invested their own resources in their concessions and have advanced initial exploration studies. However, many face a barrier when they need to move on to more advanced technical studies, such as diamond drilling, due to the high costs involved in this work.
At this stage, the Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), could play an important role by creating technical and financial support mechanisms that would allow these small-scale miners to continue their exploration studies and advance toward formalized and technically sound projects.
Exploration and Development of Mining Potential
Exploration is a fundamental stage for determining the potential of a mining concession with greater precision. However, advanced studies such as diamond drilling require significant investments that many small mining entrepreneurs cannot afford on their own. Facilitating access to this stage would allow more projects to technically demonstrate their potential and continue their development.

From Mining Potential to New Productive Projects
Turning the potential of a concession into a viable mining project requires technical studies, exploration and capital. If the government facilitates mechanisms that allow small mining entrepreneurs to advance through these stages, Peru could incorporate new projects into its formal economy and generate new investment and employment opportunities.
Peru has numerous small mining entrepreneurs who have invested their own resources to develop their concessions and carry out initial studies. Many of these projects reach a point where they require more advanced studies, but the high cost of exploration makes it difficult for them to continue.
The Role of the Government and MINEM
The Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), can play an important role by creating technical and financial support mechanisms that enable these small mining entrepreneurs to advance toward more comprehensive exploration studies, including diamond drilling.
This support should not be understood as a permanent subsidy, but rather as a tool to help projects with potential advance technically, attract private investment and eventually enter formal production, generating employment and development for the country.
From Exploration to New Productive Projects
When a project completes more advanced technical studies, its ability to attract private investment and move toward new stages of development increases. In this way, small mining initiatives can evolve into formal projects capable of generating employment, investment and economic activity in their regions.
From my business perspective, supporting small mining entrepreneurs means promoting a new generation of formal, technically sound projects capable of attracting capital. Peru has resources, talent and opportunities; the challenge is to create the conditions to transform that potential into development.
An Opportunity for Future Generations
Peru’s mining potential represents an opportunity for future generations. Supporting small mining entrepreneurs will help expand the base of formal projects, attract new investment and generate economic development in different regions of the country.
The challenge is to create the conditions for more small mining entrepreneurs to develop their projects, advance toward formalization and contribute to the growth of responsible and competitive mining in Peru.
